The Clifton Suspension Bridge, spanning the Avon Gorge opened in 1864. The
foundation stone was laid in 1831 and Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the
designer and project engineer never saw the completion of his work as he died
prematurely in 1859.
In the nearby Visitors Centre you can see an exhibition that graphically
illustrates the story of the the famous landmark, a scale model of the Bridge
and memorabilia from 150 years ago. |
